10 YEARS OF DIGITAL SIGNAGE!

10 YEARS OF DIGITAL SIGNAGE!

Yap!digital. What does it feel like to be 10?!

Like most people that get to double-digits, there is a real sense and pride on reaching the milestone of 10. Likewise for Yap!digital.

Yap!digital has evolved through the ‘baby’ stage, the terrible-two’s and troublesome-three’s – and has capitalised on a good grounding in the important things in life. Honesty. Respect. Integrity.  We haven’t exactly had parents to guide us through this maze that is growing-up. However, we have been fortunate to have a good team of sign professionals, interested in making a big impression with digital signage in Western Australia. Whilst the technology may at first appear to be simple – “it is just another TV screen after all?!”  All is not that simple! And like all youngsters sometimes the journey of discovery is as frustrating as it is exciting.

So, at this decade milestone for Yap!digital, we ask where have we come from?  And where are we going?

We can answer the first questions and second-guess the second. Read on!

The Yap!digital Story

Where have we come from? A decade ago we started our digital signage division – Yap!digital – interactive signage that speaks!. An early example of our work was these two map tables installed for CEDAR WOODS PROPERTIES LIMITED back in 2013 at their Byford Sales Office.  Read Case Study here.

Since then Yap!digital has gone from strength to strength, offering many of the digital signage solutions seen across WA. From touchscreens and digital pylons to digital OOH billboards and interactive kiosks, the chances are that we were the turnkey digital solution provider. See our work at airports, railway stations, shopping centres, retail and on major freeways on this website – we’ve over 80 digital signage projects to our name.

We predicted it a decade ago that Digital Signage is the future! In the last 10 years we have completed some outstanding digital signage projects in Perth – just a small selection are shown below. Check out the 60 Case Study examples of the work we are doing in the west.

Digital Signage Top Trends

Where are we going? There is significant innovation and product development in the digital signage global industry. According to Digital Signage Today  the key shapers of the digital signage industry are predicted to mirror key priorities for most Fortune 500, FTSE100 and global brands. This is both interesting but not surprising and all companies evolve to compete on an even playing field where fairness is the name of the game.

The top 3 trends in the signage industry for 2023* are shown below:-

Trend 1: DEI*
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: thanks to the rise of new generations of consumers and businesspeople, a rising emphasis on DEI is a major force in the market, from increased demand for diversity in creative to increased opportunities for people of all walks in leadership roles. Women especially have sought an increased voice and role in the industry.  A growing number of women in leadership roles are seeking to shape an industry that is more accessible to practitioners and customers of all walks and ability types, and accessibility is a growing priority.

Trend 2: ESG*
Environment, Sustainability, Governance: fuelled in part by the explosive growth of digital signage on college campuses (particularly during COVID), along with a new cohort of Millennial and Gen Z customers, the industry is placing an enormous priority on sustainability. From companies to nation states (and major emerging markets) like India, with a government-supported mandate for sustainable signage, the trend includes consumers themselves, who express increased concern on the topic. Examples like sustainable, plant-based protein company Just Eggs leveraging Volta (which itself is a media network running on EV charging stations) combine sustainable products with sustainable company strategies.

Trend 3: Emerging Markets*
Due to its long-time dominance in North America and the Eurozone, the digital signage industry often focuses on these regions nearly exclusively, particularly in industry coverage. However, thanks to global economic shifts and massive infrastructure investments in emerging markets, there are rapidly growing hubs of digital signage development. India has seen exponential growth, and suspect it will become one of the dominant markets within a decade.

The ANZ region of Asia Pacific is dynamic and growing steadily, from car-top DOOH innovations to healthy eating DOOH campaigns by the Australian government. A lot of exciting things are stirring in Africa, spurred largely by South Africa as what sources have called the “springboard” into the continent, from QSR and CPG multinationals to Isuzu’s unveiling of Kenya digital signage. The explosion of infrastructure in previously connection-less regions is fuelling the overnight birth of entire industries and massive investment opportunities that it would be foolish for businesses to ignore (consider the almost overnight 4G connectivity of Bangladesh, the resultant over 1 billion FIFA streams via Toffee, and the enormous DOOH, kiosk, and mobile interactivity verticals implied by this success).

These trends alone herald a dynamic and profitable future for this industry, which (while its shape is changing dramatically) has nearly unlimited potential as it embraces new markets, new customers and new technologies.
